Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain set to battle for 27-year-old Liverpool star next summer: Reports

According to Fichajes.net, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are set to battle it out as both clubs want to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool next summer. This latest development comes as Diaz is gradually entering the final year of his contract at Anfield, which will expire in June 2027.

While Liverpool are looking to persuade Diaz to sign a contract extension, PSG and Barca are interested in signing the 27-year-old. The aforementioned report claimed that La Blaugrana had long been interested in signing Diaz, but their financial constraints watered down the possibility.

However, the Spanish club's recent financial reforms could allow them to sign Diaz. The Catalans have been looking to enhance their left-wing, with recent interest in Manchester United's Marcus Rashford. Barcelona's hierarchy are of the view that Diaz could easily fit into Hansi Flick's system and could enhance the attack.

Meanwhile, PSG have been looking to consolidate their left-wing. They could also be looking to provide competition for Bradley Barcola in the left-wing.

In the 2024-25 campaign, Diaz has scored nine goals and registered three assists in 22 games for Liverpool. Fichajes.net claims that Diaz favors a move to Camp Nou as he has previously been linked with La Blaugrana.

According to Diario AS (via Transfer News Live on X), La Blaugrana are interested in offering youngster Lamine Yamal a long-term contract with an increasable salary.

The report also claims that the Catalans are looking to do this to avoid breaching the financial fair play regulations. Yamal has been one of Barcelona's most valuable players in recent years. The youngster is also a key player in Flick's attack.

In 21 appearances across all competitions this season, he has scored six goals and registered 12 assists for La Blaugrana. His current contract at the Camp Nou is set to expire in June 2026.

However, an extension implies that he could stay at Barca beyond 2026. The 17-year-old is presently recovering from an ankle injury and he's part of the long-term plans of the club.
