Barcelona plotting surprise move for Liverpool star in 2025: Reports
Barcelona are planning a move for Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah in 2025, according to journalist Luis Miguelsanz. The Egyptian forward has entered the final year of his contract with the Reds and hasn't signed a new deal yet.
Salah has been a key component in Liverpool's recent success under Jurgen Klopp. Now in the twilight of his career, the 32-year-old remains indispensable under Arne Slot.
Salah has scored nine goals and set up seven more from 15 games across competitions this season. The Reds are pleased with his efforts and are hoping to tie him down to a new deal amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
Barcelona are also keeping a close eye on the situation, with the club likely to invest in the free-agent market once again next year. The Catalans are firing on all cylinders at the moment and Salah could help them hit a higher gear.
The LaLiga giants are long-term admirers of the Egyptian and previously eyed him under Xavi as well. However, Salah was then in talks for a new deal with Liverpool and the move never materialised.
Barcelona were also previously sceptical about the player's wages, believed to be in the range of €15m per year. However, should he become available for a Bosman move in 2025, the Catalans could consider a move at the end of the season.
Could Liverpool move for Barcelona's Lamine Yamal in 2025?
Liverpool remain eager to tie Mohamed Salah down to a new deal. However, they are preparing for his eventual exit as well and are scouting the market for replacements.
Recent reports (via Barca Universal) have suggested that they are among the clubs eyeing Lamine Yamal with interest. The 17-year-old exploded onto the scene with Barcelona last season and was impeccable for Spain over the summer, helping them win Euro 2024.
Yamal has continued his golden rise under Hansi Flick and already has six goals and eight assists from 15 games across competitions this season. His efforts have earned him admirers at Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Spanish forward could be a fantastic replacement for Salah at Anfield. However, Barcelona have no desire to let him go, having already rejected a colossal bid from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this summer.
Yamal's contract at the club expires in 2026. But recent reports have suggested that the Catalans are planning to tie him down to a new deal until 2030 as soon as he turns 18 next summer.
