Barcelona ready to offer 2 players plus cash to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea: Reports
Barcelona are reportedly prepared to include two first-team stars in a potential player-plus-cash deal to lure Enzo Fernandez away from Chelsea.
Fernandez, 23, has recently emerged as a topic of discussion due to his excellent run of form. He has found the back of the opposition net three times and contributed six assists in his last seven games across competitions this season.
Hence, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, Barcelona have identified the Argentine as a potential signing in the near future. They are willing to offer Frenkie de Jong and Ferran Torres to the Blues in a possible player-plus-cash deal.
However, Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner. The club could get tempted by the prospect of two Barcelona players coming in, but head coach Enzo Maresca is expected to have the final say.
Since leaving Benfica for £107 million in January 2023, Fernandez has registered 10 goals and 12 assists in 81 overall appearances for the Blues.
Ex-Barcelona star lambasts Chelsea loanee
Earlier this July, Raheem Sterling was told that he was surplus to requirements at Chelsea by new head coach Enzo Maresca. He subsequently left the Blues and joined Arsenal on a loan move on the summer transfer deadline day.
However, the former Manchester City winger has struggled to shine at the Gunners this term. He has started just four of his 10 appearances across competitions for his loan club, bagging just one goal and recording two assists so far.
Speaking recently to betting website Gambling Zone, former Barcelona man Emmanuel Petit shared his honest thoughts on the Blues loanee. The former Chelsea and Arsenal star opined (h/t Metro):
"Something just doesn't seem to be right with Raheem Sterling this season. If you take away his speed, what else does he offer? I have the feeling that Sterling is not hungry anymore – I said this a couple of weeks ago. I think he thinks that he's achieved all he needs to achieve in football and this isn't how it works in top level professional football."
Petit, who represented Barcelona between 2000 and 2001, concluded:
"I think this is why he's not performing because he doesn't want to keep going and he doesn't have the same ambition as when he was a youngster. Chelsea will put him on the transfer market in the summer and he will have to cut his wages if he wants to leave. If not, he will stay and no one will ever see him on the team sheet again."
Sterling, 30, has scored 19 goals in 81 total games for his parent club.
