Barcelona to receive compensation from UEFA if Pedri is ruled out for more than a month after injury at EURO 2024 - Reports

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are set to receive compensation after Pedri's injury during the Euro 2024 quarter-final clash against Germany. The Spaniard suffered an injury early in the game and was forced off the pitch as a result.

He was dissolved to tears and by the looks of it, he seemed set for an extended period on the sidelines. As per UEFA's club protection program, Barca will receive financial compensation from the 29th day of Pedri's absence.

This rule requires a minimum threshold of 28 days and from the 29th day, the club can ask for compensation that will vary depending on the player's salary. UEFA reportedly cover a daily maximum limit of €20.548 and a total compensation of €7.5 million maximum. The rule has been in place since the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Barcelona reportedly received a similar compensation after Gavi suffered a catastrophic knee injury last year. Pedri's absence, though, can't be compensated through financial matters only.

The midfielder is a key part of La Blaugrana's system and his potential absence could be a big blow during the earlier stages of the Hansi Flick era. Barca are eligible to file for the compensation following August 2.

Ilkay Gundogan spotted asking Barcelona teammate about Pedri's injury

Ilkay Gundogan captained Germany during the Euro 2024 campaign. The Barcelona midfielder also started the clash against Spain. Despite ending up on the losing side, Gundogan showcased his class.

During a post-match interview, Gundogan was spotted asking Ferran Torresn about Pedri's injury. The former Manchester City ace could be seen asking Torres:

"How's Pedri?"

Torres, formerly of Manchester City and currently of Barca, replied:

"We'll see tomorrow."

Gundogan joined Azulgrana in the summer of 2023 as a free agent from Manchester City. Since his move to the Catalan club, the German has shared the pitch 31 times with Pedri with the pair combining in three goals.

Spain, meanwhile, have booked a spot in the last four of Euro 2024 and will play France on July 9. Les Bleus defeated Portugal via penalties (5-3) to reach the semi-finals.
