Barcelona risk losing 26-year-old star for free in January as surprise contract clause comes to light: Reports
Barcelona will need to register Dani Olmo for the second half of the 2024-25 season or he can leave on a free transfer, as per Mundo Deportivo (via GOAL). The 26-year-old became a transfer priority for multiple clubs after his performance at the 2024 European Championships.
The LaLiga giants signed Olmo from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for a reported transfer fee of €55 million plus €7 million in add-ons. At that time, the Spanish midfielder had reportedly signed a six-year deal with La Blaugrana.
However, as per the aforementioned report, the LaLiga giants had a clause in the deal, as per which Olmo was contracted with the club for only one season. The 26-year-old also missed La Blaugrana's initial games of the season due to their failure to register him in accordance with the league's salary rules. However, Andreas Christensen's injury allowed Barcelona to add Olmo to their roster.
It's now been reported that the club only registered Dani Olmo for the initial six months of the 2024-25 season. The deal also includes a second clause which allows Olmo to leave the club as a free agent if they fail to register him for the second half of the season.
However, despite speculations, the LaLiga giants are confident they can register the Spanish midfielder soon. Olmo has made 12 appearances for La Blaugrana across all competitions this term, scoring six goals.
Next up, the La Liga giants will travel to Signal Iduna Park to face Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, December 11.
