Barcelona star linked with surprise move to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain: Reports
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are preparing to move for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, according to Fichajes.net. The Dutch midfielder's contract expires in the summer of 2026 and he hasn't agreed to a new deal yet.
The player has been linked with an exit from Camp Nou for a while, and already has suitors in the Premier League. Manchester United are long-term admirers of the 27-year-old, while recent reports have suggested that Liverpool are also eyeing him with interest.
The Parisians have now entered the race. Manager Luis Enrique is looking for someone to pull the strings from midfield and has his eyes on De Jong.
Barcelona would ideally like the player to stay and have apparently offered him a new deal. However, the player is yet to respond to their proposal, forcing the club to make contingency plans.
The Catalans are now open to the Dutchman's exit in 2025. De Jong is one of the highest earners at Camp Nou and his departure would also help ease their wage bill.
The emergence of younger talents like Marc Casado and Marc Bernal - who is currently injured - could also tempt the LaLiga giants to offload the Dutchman. De Jong has also struggled with injuries of late, but his stock remains high. The player is apparently open to a new adventure and PSG are ready to submit an offer that Barcelona may find hard to refuse.
When is Barcelona's next game?
Barcelona return to action on Wednesday, December 11, with a game against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. The Catalans have struggled for consistency of late in LaLiga, although they remain at the top of the league table after 17 games.
The Spanish giants were held to a 2-2 draw by Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin on Saturday. Hansi Flick's team are now two points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid, although Los Blancos have a game in hand.
Barcelona have 12 wins and three defeats in LaLiga this season, but have just one win in their last five league games. However, Flick's team have been a different beast in Europe so far.
The Catalans started their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Monaco. However, they have won all four games in Europe since and are third in the table after five games. The LaLiga giants have scored 18 goals and conceded just five in the tournament so far.
