Barcelona suffer blow as two Saudi Pro League sides eye move for top target - Reports

Barcelona have reportedly suffered a blow in their pursuit of Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo. The Portugal international is now said to be a target for two Saudi Pro League sides, who are willing to pay the Cityzens' asking price.

As per a report in Mundo Deportivo, Al-Alhi and Al-Ettifaq are keen on signing Cancelo this summer. They are working on a deal with Manchester City, while also looking to open talks with his agent.

The Portuguese star is keen on leaving Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola is open to welcoming him back to the squad. He told the media earlier this year:

"It has to be the best for everyone. The two clubs will sit down. He is our player and, if an agreement is not reached, he will have to return in the pre-season. If he wants to stay here, and the clubs agree, it will be done again."

Cancelo's agent, Jorge Mendes, is reportedly in talks with Inter Milan and Juventus, in case the move to Barcelona or Saudi falls through.

Joao Cancelo wants Barcelona move; not keen on Manchester City return

Joao Cancelo has admitted that he wants to join Barcelona permanently. He believes that the Catalan side are the ideal club for him and told the media (via GOAL):

"I was lucky enough to play for only big teams. I am proud of my career because nobody has ever gifted me anything. I’ve conquered everything with sacrifice. I know nothing yet [about the future], but I’d like to stay here. I grew up watching Ronaldinho’s Barcelona. He’s my idol. I am proud to wear this jersey, and there aren’t other clubs I can join, right?"

He also took an indirect dig at Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and stated that he had no issues with his teammate. He said:

"Lies were told! I've never been a bad teammate for them and you can ask either Aké or Rico. I don't have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, but that's the manager's opinion. I was because it wasn't true. I think Man City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that, because I was a very important player in the years I was there. I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans and I always gave everything."

Joao Cancelo is still pushing for a move to Barcelona, and is not interested in a move to Italy, as per La Stampa.
