Barcelona told to pay €30 million to sign Premier League star - Reports
According to Todofichajes, Manchester City want Barcelona to pay €30 million for Joao Cancelo. The Portugal international spent the 2023-24 season on loan at La Blaugrana and is reportedly keen to return.
Man City and Cancelo are expected to part ways this summer with Barca being the player's favorable destination and the Catalan club also interested in the Portuguese. However, the financial aspects of the deal could turn out to be a roadblock.
Under their current financial circumstances, paying €30 million is not an easy ask for Azulgrana. They want Cancelo on loan for another season. Apart from that, the full-back also commands a high wage, which he might have to sacrifice in a bid to return to Barcelona.
Hansi Flick has started his reign at the Catalan club and as per the aforementioned report, signing Nico Williams is currently the club's priority and they'll focus on Cancelo after that.
Cancelo was a key player for the La Liga side last season. He scored four goals and provided five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. The 30-year-old has so far made 154 appearances for City, scoring nine goals and providing 21 assists.
Joao Cancelo is also an experienced Portugal international, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in 58 appearances. He has also played for clubs like Juventus, Bayern Munich, Valencia, Inter Milan, and Benfica during his career.
Cancelo can play on both flanks and can even operate higher up the pitch despite being a full-back by trait.
