Barcelona Transfer News Roundup: Catalans close to Jonathan Tah deal, Dani Olmo not planning to leave, and more - December 11, 2024
Barcelona travel to Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday, December 11, to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Hansi Flick's team is sixth in the European table, but can move up to second with a win.
Meanwhile, the Catalans are close to taking Jonathan Tah to Camp Nou. Elsewhere, Dani Olmo is not planning to leave the Spanish giants at the turn of the year.
On that note, let's look at the major Barcelona transfer stories from December 11, 2024.
Barcelona close to Jonathan Tah deal
Barcelona are close to securing the services of Jonathan Tah, according to SPORT (via Barca Universal). The German defender's contract with Bayer Leverkusen is set to expire in just over six months and he has already decided that he will leave.
Tah was outstanding for the German side last year, helping them win the Bundesliga as well as the DFB Pokal. Multiple clubs are eyeing the player with interest ahead of the summer of 2025, when he will be available for free.
However, it now appears that the Catalans have taken the lead in the race for the 28-year-old. The LaLiga giants are apparently very close to finalizing a deal for the player.
Barcelona sporting manager Deco recently traveled to Germany to have a chat with the player's entourage. Talks have progressed well and Tah is apparently convinced by the move.
Recent reports have also suggested that the player is eager to move to Camp Nou and is pushing for a transfer. He is reportedly willing to turn down a lucrative proposal from Bayern Munich in favor of joining the Catalans.
Dani Olmo not planning to leave
Dani Olmo is not planning to leave Barcelona this winter, according to Mundo Deportivo (via Barca Universal). The Spanish midfielder arrived at Camp Nou this summer from RB Leipzig in a reported €55m deal.
However, the Catalans could only register him until December 31 owing to their poor financial situation. The club are currently working to complete his full registration.
It has now emerged that the Spaniard has a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave in January if he is not registered. However, the player is apparently not eyeing that option and remains determined to succeed at Camp Nou.
The LaLiga giants, meanwhile, are working to rake in more funds that would help them return to the 1:1 rule. Once that is achieved, it would enable the club to register both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
Catalans retain interest in Antonio Cordero
Barcelona are planning an offer for Antonio Cordero in January, according to Radio MARCA Malaga (via Barca Universal). The Catalans were keen to sign the Spanish forward this summer, but balked at Malaga's €3m asking price.
They offered €1.8m for the 18-year-old, along with add-ons that would have taken their proposal to €4m. However, it was turned down.
Antonito's contract with the Andalusian club expires in 2025 and he hasn't signed a new deal yet. The Blaugrana are now planning to return for the player at the turn of the year, but with a far lower proposal.
Malaga are apparently willing to accept Barcelona's offer rather than lose him for free next summer. Should the move materialize, the player is likely to be drafted into the Catalans' youth team.
