Barcelona unable to register Dani Olmo due to La Liga rules - Reports

According to Cadena SER, Barcelona are unable to register Dani Olmo despite signing the attacking midfielder on a six-year deal. The reported development comes as a setback to the club ahead of the new La Liga season.

Barca secured a €50 million deal with RB Leipzig to sign Spain's Euro 2024 star. However, given their financial situation, the club have been unable to register Olmo.

Barca recently renewed their deal with Aramark, which was supposed to help them in the financial matter and return to the 1:1 rule, The 1:1 rule means the club can spend every penny they make. However, Barca reportedly still need to amass €60 million in order to fulfill the requirements of 1:1 rule.

The club are in talks with Nike regarding a potential deal, which could be a massive boost. Else, they need to sell players and amass the sum, or deploy an economic lever yet again.

Olmo, a La Masia academy product, might not get registered before the start of the La Liga season. In the worst case scenario, Olmo might not get registered at all for the 2024-25 season if the current situation continues.

The 26-year-old arrives after gaining experience in European football with Dinamo Zagreb and RB Leipzig. Olmo made 124 appearances for Leipzig, scoring 34 goals and providing 28 assists.

He has also become a handy player for Spain in recent times, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists in 39 appearances for La Roja. Olmo was a star performer for Spain during Euro 2024, scoring thrice and providing two assists over the course of the tournament in Germany.

While Dani Olmo's registration is in doubt, the Spaniard is in the squad for the Joan Gamper trophy. Barcelona will play AS Monaco on Monday, August 12, in the pre-season competition.

Olmo is in the squad and has been assigned the number 20 shirt. Fans will keep a keen eye on whether the attacking midfielder plays a role in the match and finally represents the club's senior team.

Olmo is a technically gifted player who plays with his brain along with his feet. He is also familiar with the famous Barcelona DNA having spent a significant time with the youth sides.

He is an exciting signing in many regards and can take up the role of the creator-in-chief in years to come. His registration issue, though, is worrisome.
