Bayern Munich interested in manager who got relegated from Premier League - Reports

Bayern Munich have reportedly added Vincent Kompany to their managerial shortlist despite Burnley's relegation. The Bundesliga giants are searching for Thomas Tuchel's replacement and the Belgian has emerged as a contender.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Bayern have held internal discussions regarding Kompany. The former Manchester City captain has been in charge of the Clarets since July 2022.

Kompany guided Burnley to promotion to the Premier League last season and did so in style. His troops won 29 of 46 games, finishing with 101 points, the sixth-best points tally in the history of the EFL Championship.

However, the Belgian's fast-paced and exciting brand of football didn't lead to success in the English top-flight. His side were relegated after losing 24 of 38 league games.

Bayern Munich endured a hugely disappointing season by their standards, failing to win the Bundesliga title for the first time in 12 years. Tuchel has parted ways as the Bavarians finished the campaign trophyless.

Kompany has the backing of his former City boss Pep Guardiola who tipped the Belgian to return to the Etihad as a manager. He said (via the club's official website):

"What I said about Vinny sooner or later coming here is not because he was an important figure as a football player, although that helps, or his connection with the fans and knowing the club. It’s his understanding of the game and he has an incredible work ethic."

Kompany has four years left on his contract with Burnley but his future is uncertain after their relegation. He's one of several candidates being lined up by Bayern Munich to replace Tuchel.

Bayern Munich are reportedly also tracking Brentford's Thomas Frank

SPORTBILD's Christian Falk reports that Brentford manager Thomas Frank is another option for Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga heavyweights are holding talks with a Premier League coach who isn't managing one of the top six clubs.

Frank has worked wonders at the Gtech Community Stadium after guiding them to promotion in 2021. The Danish coach has transformed the Bees into a mid-table battling side, who have picked up impressive wins.

Brentford have claimed famous victories over Manchester United (4-0) and Chelsea (2-0). They staved off the threat of relegation this season, finishing 16th in the league, 13 points above the drop zone.

Frank has yet to manage a top European club having worked as Dean Smith's assistant with the west London club initially. He has three years left on his contract and is viewed as a hero at the Gtech.
