Brighton agree £10 million deal to sign Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami teammate: Reports

Lionel Messi's teammate at Inter Miami, Diego Gomez is reportedly set for a move to Brighton & Hove Albion. The Premier League side are said to have their bid accepted by the MLS club.

As per a report by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Brighton's bid of over £10 million for the Paraguay international has been accepted by Miami. The MLS side reportedly rejected the bid at first but accepted it later as the player was keen on the move.

The Paraguay star spoke to Deporte Total USA earlier this month and stated that he was looking to join the Premier League side. He admitted that Brighton were in talks with the MLS side and said (via GOAL):

"My agent is speaking to Inter Miami and Brighton & Hove Albion, I came here to make the jump to Europe. I hope it happens and whatever God wants."

His agent has also confirmed that the move is possible this summer as Brighton are pushing. He said:

"With the performance he had in the pre-olympics in Miami, his transfer is always a possibility. He (Diego) is a desirable player, but at this moment he is 100% in the Olympic games, to represent our country well, then we will see what to do with that."

Diego Gomez is currently with the Paraguay under-23 side at the Paris Olympics. He has played both their matches so far and assisted twice.

Inter Miami manager confirms Brighton & Hove Albion's interest in Diego Gomez

Tata Martino spoke about Brighton & Hove Albion's interest in Diego Gomez. The Inter Miami manager also noted that the Paraguay star had improved leaps and bounds since moving to the MLS side and said:

"It is more than just interest from Brighton in Diego, and sooner or later this was going to happen. In a year and a half with us he has demonstrated his quality. We'd love to keep him until the end of the year, but we don't know when he will go. I think that particular Premier League club would be a good place for him."

Diego Gomez had joined Inter Miami for just $3 million from Club Libertad just last year. He became a key part of the MLS side's starting XI during that time.
