Bundesliga club considering Erik ten Hag as new head coach following Manchester United sack: Reports

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are allegedly hoping to appoint Erik ten Hag as their new head coach following the Dutchman's sacking at Manchester United.

Earlier this Monday (October 28), Manchester United decided to fire Ten Hag after a disastrous start to the ongoing 2024-25 season. They registered just four wins in 14 matches across competitions under the former Ajax manager, netting a meagre 20 goals, this season.

Now, according to Spanish website Fichajes.net, Dortmund are keeping close tabs on Ten Hag's situation with Nuri Sahin's job currently under scrutiny. They are said to be aiming to appoint the ex-Red Devils manager due to his focus on developing talented youngsters.

Sahin, who is a ex-Dortmund and Real Madrid midfielder, has opened the ongoing 2024-25 campaign on a poor note. He has guided BVB to three losses in their past four total matches and helped them sit in seventh place in the league table with 13 points from eight games.

Manchester United great Paul Scholes names 2 coaches Red Devils should appoint in future

Speaking to TNT Sports, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes claimed that his former club should pursue Xavi Hernandez and Zinedine Zidane now. He said (h/t Metro):

"Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, so they need the best of the best. If they think Xavi is that man, then it's a risky one. But he's managed at an elite level with a club very similar to Manchester United in Spain with Barcelona. They won the league against Carlo Ancelotti's [Real Madrid] team in difficult circumstances, so I wouldn't be against that."

Scholes, who lifted 11 Premier League titles as a player, added:

"There's Zinedine Zidane who was very successful at Real Madrid. Whether he wants to come to England, I very much doubt. He's another name, and then you think about Ruben Amorim at Sporting Lisbon. Again, that's a similar one to [Erik] ten Hag, doing well in a league that isn't as well known or of the same stature as other leagues in Europe, but has done very well."

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are allegedly working on a deal to appoint Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim in the near future. They are willing to activate the 39-year-old coach's release clause of over £8 million.

The Old Trafford outfit will next face Leicester City in their EFL Cup last-16 contest this Wednesday. They will lock horns with Chelsea in the Premier League next on Sunday (November 3).
