Champions League side eye move for Conor Gallagher as Chelsea stall contract talks - Reports
Aston Villa are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in the summer transfer window, claims The Telegraph.
The Blues midfielder has only a year left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, and there hasn't been progress between the player and his club over a new deal. According to this report, this has led to multiple clubs attempting to sign the player, including north London side Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Gallagher continues to perform a key role for Mauricio Pochettino and is set to captain the team during the final league game of the season on May 19. This campaign, the England international has made 49 appearances across competitions for the west Londoners, bagging seven goals and nine assists.
As per this report, the Blues valued Gallagher at around £50 million, and the player's good performances could ensure that this price is met in the summer. However, with just a year on the midfielder's deal, there may come a point in the window where Chelsea could settle for slightly less.
For the 24-year-old, a move to Villa Park would certainly be exciting, given Unai Emery's team have secured Champions League football for next season. They even made it to the semi-final of the Europa Conference League this year, where the Villans were knocked out by Olympiacos.
A move for Gallagher will not be simple, given Newcastle United are also believed to be in the race for the player's signature.
Chelsea eyeing a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, who will replace Conor Gallagher - Reports
With Chelsea likely to allow Conor Gallagher to walk out of Stamford Bridge this season, they are reportedly eyeing a move for Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) Manuel Ugarte.
According to TBR Football, the Blues are keeping tabs on the defensive midfielder's situation. However, the player is certain to cost the Premier League team a fair sum, with four years still left on his contract at the Parc des Princes.
Moreover, the Parisians acquired the Uruguay international's services for a reported sum of £51 million in the summer of 2023. In all, Ugarte has started 20 Ligue 1 matches for PSG this season and has bagged three assists.
However, it's unlikely that Ugarte would serve as a direct replacement for Gallagher, who has enjoyed a more advanced role this campaign. Moises Caicedo has operated as the deepest of the Chelsea midfielders.
