Chelsea believe they can hijack move for Euro 2024 winner as talks with Barcelona stall - Reports

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to launch an offensive to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club after his proposed move to Barcelona fell through. The Spanish forward has become one of the most sought-after players in Europe after his performances in recent times.

Williams was one of the stars for Spain as they won their first major title in 12 years this summer. The 22-year-old was on the scoresheet for La Roja in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin as they overcame England 2-1. He finished the tournament with two goals and an assist for Luis De La Fuente's side, playing six games.

Barcelona have been interested in signing Williams for most of the summer, with club president Joan Laporta openly speaking about the winger. The latest reports out of Spain indicate that La Blaugrana won't be able to afford the youngster despite interest from both parties. The Spanish giants are instead prepared to move for RB Leipzig ace Dani Olmo (via Football Fancast).

Chelsea are another side to have shown an interest in Nico Williams in the past, but they conceded defeat to Barcelona, who were viewed as favorites. The new situation surrounding the move has brought the English side back into the fold, as per journalist Simon Phillips.

The Blues remain in the market for a winger this summer, with new coach Enzo Maresca yet to be entirely convinced by Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk. Teenage star Tyrique George is on tour with the team, indicative of the manager's need for a greater quality in the position.

Unlike Barcelona, Chelsea have the financial muscle to pull off a deal for the Spaniard, whose release clause stands at around £50 million. A move to Stamford Bridge may yet be on the cards for the forward if both parties decide to press forward.

Chelsea banish academy graduate from first-team squad - Reports

Chelsea have informed academy graduate Conor Gallagher that he will not be part of their first team going forward, as per a report from journalist Alex Crook. The England international becomes the second academy graduate to be cut from the squad after Trevoh Chalobah this summer.

Gallagher was a pivotal player for the Blues under Mauricio Pochettino, captaining the side for most of the season. The midfielder has, however, been informed by the club that he has to leave or accept a place in the youth team.

Chelsea have put Gallagher up for sale, and have an agreement in place with Atletico Madrid for a €40 million transfer. The midfielder has yet to agree to move to Spain and recently turned down an offer of a three-year extension with the Blues.

Gallagher is said to have told the club that he would be open to signing a long-term deal this summer. The club is unwilling to offer him one, and would like for him to move this summer.
