Chelsea insert unlikely clause into loan move for Jadon Sancho; could avoid buying him if it happens this season: Reports

Chelsea have reportedly included an interesting clause that might prevent them from buying Jadon Sancho from Manchester United next season. According to The Telegraph's James Ducker, the west London club will have to buy Sancho if they finish within the top 14 in the Premier League this season.

In the unlikely scenario that they finish lower than 14, Chelsea will be exempted from signing Sancho on a permanent deal. However, the Blues have never finished lower than 14 in the 21st century so far.

Jadon Sancho joined the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for a hefty sum of £73 million. However, the Englishman didn't justify his price tag, scoring just a dozen goals and six assists in 83 games in his first two seasons at Manchester United.

Last season, Sancho had a public fallout with Erik Ten Hag after the Dutchman benched him against Arsenal in September. At that time, Ten Hag said (via GOAL):

"On his performance on training we didn't select him. You have to reach the level every day at Manchester United. You can make choices in the front line, so in this game, he wasn't selected."

The words left Jadon Sancho infuriated and he wrote back in a now-deleted social media post:

"Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into, I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair!"

The brawl with Erik Ten Hag made him a permanent benchwarmer for the Red Devils and he was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund in January.

Sancho would now want to turn his fortune at Chelsea. The Blues have inflated their squad quite aggressively in the summer transfer market and would be aiming to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea have offered Ben Chilwell to Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce. The left-back is one of the several players shunned from the first team by Enzo Maresca, with the Blues exploring his departure.

Despite the European transfer window coming to a close on August 30, few leagues can still conduct business for a few more weeks. For Turkish clubs, the deadline is on September 13. The report also states that Chilwell isn't ready to move until the right opportunity arrives. Therefore, a loan deal seems like the most likely future for the Englishman.

Chilwell made his way to the west London club in the summer of 2020 from Leicester City. Since then, he has made 106 appearances, recording nine goals and 12 assists.

Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho lavished praise on the left-back in 2021 via talkSPORT. The Portuguese manager said:

“I know that he plays normally with Chelsea in a five, but he (Chilwell) is intelligent, he covers the space and the diagonals inside very well, he’s dangerous in attack, he’s good in the air and good on set pieces.”

After an unexpected loss against Servette FC, Chelsea will face Crystal Palace in their next Premier League clash on Sunday (September 1).
