Chelsea legend Frank Lampard set to replace ex-Manchester United striker as manager at Championship club: Reports

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard could replace ex-Manchester United striker Mark Robins as Coventry City manager, Mirror reports. The Blues legend has been without a job since his brief spell in charge of his former club in 2023.

Lampard began his managerial career in the Championship with Derby County in the 2018-19 season, leading them to the playoffs. The Englishman soon joined Chelsea for his first spell as their manager in 2019 but was relieved of his duties in 2021. He then managed Everton without much success before another brief stint at Stamford Bridge.

Mirror reports that Coventry City are looking to part ways with Mark Robins after an unimpressive start to the 2024-25 season that has left them 17th in the Championship. The former Manchester United striker could be replaced by Frank Lampard as the club's owner is keen to appoint a big name.

Robins is in his second spell as the Sky Blues manager, having previously worked with the club between 2012 and 2013. He rejoined the club in 2017 and led them from League Two to the Championship by 2020. He also helped them reach the Championship playoffs in the 2022-23 season. The manager also guided the side to a first FA Cup semi-final since 1987, where they lost on penalties to Manchester United.

Lampard had been linked with the manager's job at AS Roma after the Italian side sacked Ivan Juric, but the Championship may just be as appealing to him due to the familiarity. If appointed, he will join fellow ex-England international Wayne Rooney (Plymouth Argyle) in working in England's second tier.

Manchester United linked with move for Chelsea ace - Reports

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku in the January transfer window. The Red Devils are interested in the France international, who has struggled to make an impact during his time at Stamford Bridge.

L'Equipe report that Manchester United have made initial enquiries about the possibility of signing the former Paris Saint-Germain man as they begin to draw up plans for life under Ruben Amorim. The club understand they need to sign a proven goalscorer, and Nkunku fits the description for this role.

Nkunku joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023 but saw his first season marred by injury issues. This season, the 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order behind Nicolas Jackson, but still has ten goals across competitions.
