Chelsea make contact over potential move to sign 21-year-old French forward: Reports

Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Elye Wahi over a potential move for the attacker to Stamford Bridge this summer. This is according to L’Equipe, who claimed that the Blues attempted to sign the French forward the previous summer as well (via Standard).

Wahi is 21 years old and represents RC Lens in Ligue 1, operating predominantly as a striker. The former Montpellier star is also capable of playing on either flank if needed.

Chelsea's interest in Wahi stems from their search for a new number nine with Nicolas Jackson failing to make a mark in the previous campaign, managing only 14 goals in 35 Premier League appearances.

However, the club's boss, Enzo Maresca, has several alternatives at the club to choose from. The likes of Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku can play in that position, in case Jackson isn't firing. With the number of attackers present at the club, Wahi will face a serious amount of competition for minutes.

However, one could also say that the spot is up for grabs with no sure-shot starter among the lot. Last season, the France under-23 international made 37 appearances across all competitions for his current employers, bagging 12 goals and four assists.

A move for Wahi will not be cheap, with the player contracted with Lens till the summer of 2028. Should he decide to move to west London, the youngster will earn himself the chance to compete in the Premier League, widely considered the best league in Europe.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly looking to nudge ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. As a result, they wish to make space and secure funds by letting go of two of their number nines in the summer (via HITC).

The report claims that the Blues believe Napoli aren't going to get a deal for their attacker this transfer window. As a result, they could turn their attention to Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani, who are both said to be available for transfers.

Although the Parisians have informed Chelsea of a move for these players, the west Londoners are yet to respond. It's unlikely that the English outfit would onboard both attackers.

Last season, Ramos made 29 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG, bagging 11 goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Kolo Muani played 26 matches in the French top-tier league, netting six times and providing five assists.
