Chelsea make enquiry to sign Premier League striker who scored 25 goals in all competitions last season: Reports
Chelsea have enquired about Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak's availability ahead of the start of the upcoming 2024-25 season, according to Daily Mail's Craig Hope.
The Blues, who have been on a spending spree since Clearlake Capital's takeover in 2022, finished sixth with 63 points in the Premier League standings last season. They are interested in bolstering their ranks this summer to better than chances of finishing in top four.
As a result, Chelsea have identified Isak as an apt signing. The 24-year-old striker found the back of the opposition net 25 times in 40 games across all competitions last campaign, providing two assists as well.
Isak, who is reportedly also on Arsenal's radar now, currently has a contract at the Magpies until June 2028. Considering his latest exploits for Eddie Howe's side, he could be slapped with an exorbitant price tag.
Since arriving from Real Sociedad in a potential £63 million deal in the summer of 2021, the Chelsea target has started 54 of his 67 appearances for Newcastle. He has recorded 35 goals and five assists so far.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea are set to rope in highly rated forward this summer
Speaking to Caught Offside for his Daily Briefing column, famed journalist Fabrizio Romano provided insight into the Blues' pursuit of Barcelona teenager Marc Guiu. He said:
"Marc Guiu to Chelsea is a 'here we go'. [The Blues] believe this was a fantastic opportunity for two reasons: huge potential as top talent, good price as his £5 million release clause at Barcelona is considered a bargain. They are very happy to proceed with the Guiu deal, and they're just working on formal steps now to trigger the clause this week."
So far, the 18-year-old striker has netted two goals in seven matches for Barcelona since his senior debut in the La Liga in October 2023.
Opining on the west London club's interest in other strikers, he added:
"I'm not sure this will be the only signing Chelsea make up front. I think they will take their time and consider other options, though my understanding as of now is that there's still nothing new on Samu Omorodion or Jhon Duran, we'll see what they decide to do."
Apart from Samu Omorodion and Jhon Duran, Enzo Maresca's side have allegedly been linked with a number of other strikers of late. They are keeping tabs on Victor Osimhen and Jonathan David to name a few.
