Chelsea make fresh move for La Liga star but have £42 million bid rejected - Reports
Chelsea have reportedly made a fresh bid to sign Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion but have seen a £42 million bid rejected by the La Liga giants. As per reports from The Sun, the Blues have been quoted an asking price of £70 million by Atletico for the 20-year-old.
As per the aforementioned report, Chelsea have been hugely impressed with the Spain Under-21 international, who spent the last season on loan at Alaves. Due to his big and strong physique and all-round game, Omorodion has been likened to former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
The Blues' owners and recruitment team, led by Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, reportedly view Omorodion as a player who fits the club's vision. New manager Enzo Maresca is also said to admire the Spaniard as he looks for solid competition for Nicolas Jackson.
Omorodion is yet to make a single appearance for Atletico Madrid, having spent the last season on loan at Alaves. He only joined Diego Simeone's side last summer in a £6 million move from Granada, despite making just one senior appearance for the latter.
The youngster scored nine goals and provided one assist in 35 league appearances for Alaves, helping them stay in La Liga.
Chelsea are keeping tabs on Newcastle United's Alexander Isak and Aston Villa's Jhon Duran. RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and Bournemouth attacker Dominic Solanke have also been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea star facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge under Enzo Maresca: Reports
Chelsea full-back Ben Chilwell reportedly faces an uncertain future at the club under new manager Enzo Maresca. The former Leicester City man had a season to forget last time out as he made just 21 appearances across competitions because of injuries.
As reported by The Telegraph via The Daily Mail, Chilwell's future at Stamford Bridge is up in the air following Maresca's appointment. The new boss reportedly wants versatile and adaptable players across the pitch but Chilwell does not possess that quality.
The Blues have Marc Cucurella, who enjoyed a decent end to the 2023-24 season and is also representing Spain in Euro 2024. Chilwell could well find himself behind Cururella in the pecking order thanks to the Spaniard's versatility and all-round game.
