Chelsea terminate contract of 25-year-old defender - Reports

According to L'Equipe, Chelsea have parted ways with Malang Sarr by terminating his contract. The 25-year-old defender joined the club from FC Porto in 2020, penning a five-year-deal.

He reportedly used to earn a mega £100K a week. Sarr's contract, however, has been terminated via agreement as per the report and the defender is set to join Ligue 1 side RC Lens.

Since his move to Stamford Bridge, Sarr made only 21 appearances for the club, two of them as a substitute during the triumphant 2022 Club World Cup campaign. Sarr also spent the 2022-23 season away on loan at AS Monaco.

The Ligue 1 side had a buy option in their contract, which they opted not to activate. Sarr didn't play a single minute during the 2023-24 season and has now left the club.

Sarr is expected to join RC Lens on a free transfer, with his medical set to take place on either Monday (July 22) or Tuesday (July 23).

Chelsea announce signing of new defender

Chelsea have announced the signing of 19-year-old left-back Caleb Wiley from MLS side Atlanta United. Wiley is a product of the MLS club's academy and has penned a six-year-long contract with the Blues.

The Blues are set to start their pre-season under Enzo Maresca and they will play Wrexham in the United States. Wiley, however, won't be available for the US tour as he is currently in his country's squad for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games.

The youngster made 85 appearances for his club's senior side, scoring six goals and providing seven assists before his move to the Blues. He made 23 appearances in total during the 2023-24 season.

Wiley has already played twice for the USMNT and fits the Blues' plan of signing the best youngsters across the globe. He is an addition to the left-back pool, with the club already having Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella in their ranks.
