David de Gea set for talks with Serie A club a year after leaving Manchester United - Reports
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is reportedly close to joining Serie A side Fiorentina this summer. The Spaniard has been without a club since last summer.
De Gea left the Red Devils as a free agent last summer upon the expiration of his contract. He made 545 appearances for them, keeping the most clean sheets in the club's history (190). He also won numerous trophies with United since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
However, Manchester United signed Andre Onana last summer and De Gea was deemed surplus to requirements. The Spaniard has been without a club ever since. He was linked with Saudi Arabian sides but a deal didn't happen. He was also linked with a move to Genoa earlier this summer but that move broke through.
As per reports from Italy (via Todofichajes.net), Fiorentina are now closing in on signing De Gea this summer. The Italian side currently have Pietro Terracciano and are looking to strengthen their squad. They are set to offer the former Manchester United man a contract worth €2.5 million per year.
Erik ten Hag reflects on Manchester United's pre-season tour
The Red Devils played five matches in pre-season this summer, with three in the United States. Before their tour, they lost 1-0 against Norwegian side Rosenborg before beating Rangers 2-0.
United then lost 2-1 against Arsenal in normal time but beat them on subsequent penalties. They then beat Real Betis before losing 3-0 against rivals Liverpool. After their final pre-season game, manager Erik ten Hag reflected on the US tour, saying (via manutd.com):
"The group and staff, everyone has done a great job. It's always tough at the end of such a tour, but we are really pleased with all the effort they put in. We came together, we worked on our game model, and now we have to fly back and we have to recover, because it's tough.
"Especially the last days, and then such a tough game at the end, but you learn a lot about your team. Now we have to recover, and then go to prepare the next game, and it is a big game."
Manchester United will now face city rivals Manchester City in the FA Community Shield on Saturday, August 10.
