Deco convinced that Barcelona can sign Real Madrid transfer target: Reports
According to El Nacional, Barcelona sporting director Deco is confident that the Catalans can swoop in for long-term Real Madrid transfer target Alphonso Davies. The Canadian wing-back, who currently plays for German giants Bayern Munich, has been linked with moves to several top European sides, including the El Clasico rivals.
Davies moved to Bavaria from Major League Soccer (MLS) side Vancouver Whitecaps in the summer of 2019. Showcasing explosive pace, intimidating physicality, silky dribbling and pin-point crossing, he has established himself as one of the best left-backs in world football.
The Canadian has racked up 11 goals and 32 assists in 203 appearances for Bayern across all competitions. With five Bundesliga titles, a UEFA Champions League title and many other domestic trophies under his belt, Davies is already an experienced campaigner at just 23.
His contract with Bayern expires at the end of the 2024-25 season, prompting many clubs to make a move for his services. Real Madrid were linked with a move last summer but decided against it to pursue his services on a free transfer in 2025.
While Los Blancos remain the front-runners to land Davies, Barcelona believe that they could crash the party and make a concrete move for the Canadian.
Sporting director Deco has reportedly claimed that the speedster's rapport with current Barcelona coach Hansi Flick could potentially give them the edge in the race for his signature.
Flick was the coach who gave Davies opportunities with the first team at Bayern, allowing him to blossom and develop as a footballer. The four-time Canadian Footballer of the Year made 70 appearances under the German tactician, bagging three goals and 10 assists and winning the sextuple in 2020.
With Alejandro Balde suffering from recurring injury problems, Davies could be the perfect fit at left-back in Barcelona's new project under Flick.
Fabrizio Romano drops update on Barcelona and Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies' current transfer situation. The 23-year-old, who is being chased by top sides like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United, will seemingly make a decision towards the end of 2024.
With Davies' contract at Bayern set to expire at the end of the season, several European giants are embroiled in a race to secure a pre-contract move for the wing-back. Los Blancos are still seemingly ahead of the rest of the pack in the pursuit of the player.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said around 7:20 in the video below (via United In Focus):
"Interesting situation [with Davies]. As of today, I can guarantee that there is nothing agreed with Man Utd. In this moment nothing is imminent, or close, or advanced so that's the point. The situation of Alphonso Davies remains absolutely open. Remember, the interest of Real Madrid is also there."
"But at the moment, that's it for Alphonso. No changes are expected in October. From what I'm hearing, in November and December, talks will be in an important phase for what is going to happen in 2025," Romano added.
Davies has made eight appearances for Bayern Munich this season, recording one assist to his name.
