Euro 2024 star wants to join Liverpool as club plot surprise £35 million move: Reports

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is reportedly keen to join Liverpool, who are in a race to rope in the Georgia international in the summer transfer window.

The Reds, who replaced Jurgen Klopp with Arne Slot in their dugout earlier in May, are yet to bring in a new face this summer. They are believed to be hoping to snap up a new midfielder and a defender soon.

However, according to Spanish radio station COPE, Liverpool are aiming to rope in Mamardashvili this summer. They are hoping to sign the player with the intention of loaning him out before the end of August.

The Reds are reportedly convinced that Mamardashvili is the suitable successor to Alisson Becker, who will turn 32 in October. They would welcome the Valencia man back from loan when Alisson would no longer be considered capable to start as the club's shot-stopper.

Mamardashvili, who has also attracted attention from Atletico Madrid, is believed to have a release clause of £85 million. However, Valencia could accept bids of close to £35 million, according to The Times.

Last season, Mamardashvili registered 13 clean sheets and conceded 41 goals in 37 La Liga matches for the Ruben Baraja-coached team.

The Dinamo Tbilisi youth product also impressed at the UEFA Euro 2024, keeping one shutout and registering 29 saves in four matches.

Liverpool urged to sign 23-year-old winger

During a chat with SPORTbible, Liverpool great Jamie Carragher urged his former club to sign Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, saying:

"I think it would be a good signing, I'm a big fan. I can't believe he didn't get more opportunities for England. He's got blistering pace that leaves defenders for dead and not many players worldwide have that. I'm a big fan but I'm sure so many people are at other clubs as well, he's at a top club in Newcastle but there's been a lot of talk about whether he was offered to Liverpool."

Carragher, who represented the Reds 737 times in his career, added:

"There is a lot of time to get between now and the end of the window, I think a lot of teams will do business towards the end of the window because of the Euros. I do feel Liverpool still haven't replaced the pace they had in the attack when they had Sadio Mane and they need to replace that."

Gordon, 23, found the back of the opposition net 12 times and laid out 11 assists in 48 matches across competitions for Newcastle last term.

The winger made just one appearance for England at the Euro 2024.
