Ex-Manchester United star David de Gea's reported wage demands come to light after multiple Serie A clubs fail to reach agreement with him
Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea's wage demands have reportedly come to light after two Serie A clubs tried to complete a deal to sign the Spaniard.
De Gea, 33, ended his 12-year-long stint at the Red Devils after the end of his deal last June. Since leaving Erik ten Hag's side, the Atletico Madrid academy graduate has spent over 13 months as a free agent.
Now, according to TEAMtalk, Fiorentina and Genoa have been unable to meet the former Manchester United star's wage demands of late. Apart from the two Serie A clubs, few Spanish teams have also failed.
De Gea, who helped the Old Trafford side lift eight trophies, is reportedly hoping to earn between £4.2 million-a-year and £5 million-per-year. He is looking for a salary of £80,000-per-week to £96,000-per-week.
During his spell at Manchester United between 2011 and 2023, De Gea made 545 appearances across competitions. The one-time Premier League winner registered 190 clean sheets and shipped 590 goals.
Fabrizio Romano shares transfer update on Manchester United's pursuit of Uruguayan
Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano offered insight into the Red Devils' pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Manuel Ugarte. The Italian said (h/t MSN):
"Joao Neves moving to Paris Saint-Germain doesn't change a lot regarding Manchester United and Manuel Ugarte. United already wanted Ugarte and PSG already agreed to sell him... but they want the right proposal and the right package, and United have not offered that at the moment. Ugarte and [Sofyan] Amrabat remain two names on United's list for their midfield."
Ugarte, 23, joined PSG from Sporting CP for close to £51 million in the summer of 2023. He has started 27 of his 37 appearances across competitions for his club so far, recording three assists along the way.
Shedding light on Scott McTominay's future, Romano elaborated:
"No bids yet for Scott McTominay. Despite rumors that Fulham have offered £30 million for his services, in the last 24 hours, they were busy with the documents on the [Emile] Smith Rowe deal and with new signing, [Jorge] Cuenca, from Villarreal. McTominay has always been appreciated and for sure, Marco Silva likes him a lot, but there's still no formal bid on the table."
McTominay, 27, could be sold this summer to make room for Ugarte in Manchester United's squad. The Scotland international has scored 29 goals and provided eight assists in 252 matches for the Red Devils.
