Fabrizio Romano confirms Arsenal have agreed loan with obligation deal to offload forgotten star for €8m
Arsenal have reportedly agreed to let defender Nuno Tavares out on loan to Lazio, who will have an obligation to buy the player at the end of this period. Fabrizio Romano provided an update about the 24-year-old's situation on his X account (formerly Twitter).
Tavares is clearly out of favor at the Emirates and has been sent out on loan for the last two seasons entirely. He spent the 2022/23 campaign playing for Marseille in France, after which he was at Nottingham Forest during the 2023/24 season.
The left-back is facing competition from numerous players in north London as a result of which his game time is limited. Currently, the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jakub Kiwior, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Jurrien Timber are fighting for a spot in that position.
Therefore, it seems reasonable that Tavares has also decided to move on from Arsenal. According to Romano, there will also be an obligation to buy the defender for €7/8 million, with a sell-on clause in place for the Gunners as well.
The Portuguese player came to the north London side in the summer of 2021 for a reported £8 million. Since then, he's made 28 appearances across competitions for the Gunners, bagging a goal and two assists.
During his time at the Emirates, Tavares has shown that he's an attacking full-back who loves to contribute to attack.
Arsenal left-back returning from loan is up for sale this summer - Reports
Arsenal are reportedly willing to sell left-back Kieran Tierney this summer transfer window. Football Transfers claim that the Scotland international doesn't have a future at the Emirates, particularly with Riccardo Calafiori rumored to be arriving in north London.
The report also clarifies that the former Celtic star has been told that he's no longer in the manager's plans. He was loaned out to Real Sociedad for the entirety of the 2023/24 season. However, it was another injury-stricken campaign for the 27-year-old, with him starting just 14 La Liga matches, bagging two assists.
Such has been the story for Tierney throughout his career at Arsenal up until this point. During the five years he's spent at the club, he's missed 76 matches across competitions for club and country.
So far, Tierney has played 124 matches for the Gunners across competitions, bagging five goals and 13 assists.
