Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba makes decision as Manchester City try to sign him - ReportsĀ
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is reportedly reluctant to return to Manchester despite interest from Manchester City. As reported by The Independent, the reason behind the World Cup-winning France international's reluctance is his prior experience in the same city with the Cityzens' local rivals.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is thought to be considering a move for Pogba as the Frenchman is set to return to football in March. The former Manchester United midfielder recently had his four-year ban for increased levels of testosterone reduced to 18 months.
Pogba saw his contract at Juventus terminated on 15 November 2024 which means he is a free agent. Guardiola has been a huge admirer of the technically gifted playmaker for a long time and reportedly wants him to bolster his midfield options.
Manchester City have experienced a shocking season this time out and are going through their worst run in many years. They have won just one of their last 10 games while losing seven and Guardiola is therefore looking to strengthen his squad.
Rodri's season-ending ACL injury has seemingly put a major dent in the Sky Blues' performance levels this campaign. Guardiola is understood to be keen on Pogba who he believes could turn around his side's fortunes.
Paul Pogba previously had two spells with Manchester United but things did not quite work out for him at Old Trafford. He made a total of 233 appearances for the Red Devils scoring 39 times while producing 48 assists.
The Frenchman also had two spells with Juventus where he amassed 190 appearances while contributing with 34 goals and 41 assists. The 31-year-old is understood to be against the idea of moving to Manchester once again because of his previous experience with the Red Devils.
Manchester United looking to beat rivals Manchester City for Bundesliga star - Reports
Manchester United are reportedly looking to beat their local rivals Manchester City for the signature of Xavi Simons. As reported by Caught Offside, Pep Guardiola's side are huge admirers of the Dutchman but the Red Devils are desperate to land him as well.
Simons is currently on the books of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) but is on loan at RB Leipzig for the second successive season. He enjoyed a sensational season at the Red Bull Arena last time out as he racked up 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 games.
The Netherlands international has not been at his absolute best this season and has also missed some games with an ankle injury. He has scored thrice and provided two assists in 11 appearances this campaign.
Pep Guardiola is reportedly eyeing the 21-year-old as he looks to add more firepower to his side that has struggled this season. However, Manchester United are looking to beat Manchester City for the youngster's signature.
