Four players that could leave Manchester United this summer
Manchester United are gearing up for a significant squad overhaul in the summer transfer window after an underwhelming 2023-24 campaign. The Red Devils have looked shaky defensively, unbalanced in midfield, and ponderous in attack. It is no wonder they look set to match their worst-ever Premier League finish.
A massive clear-out will be expected at the club in the summer, with Dutch manager Erik ten Hag's job also potentially on the chopping block if the season ends poorly.
Here are four players in the Manchester United squad who could be saying goodbye to Old Trafford permanently in the summer:
Raphael Varane
Former Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has blown hot and cold for the Red Devils since he arrived at Old Trafford. The World Cup winner remains one of the most decorated players in world football. He has also been a part of a Manchester United defense that has failed to impress.
With the revival of Harry Maguire in the heart of the defense and Willy Kambwala's emergence, Varane looks set to be cut loose in the summer.
Casemiro
Another import from Real Madrid, Casemiro had a fantastic first season at Old Trafford, helping the side to a Carabao Cup win and an FA Cup final. However, the Brazilian midfielder has been plagued by injuries this season and has failed to take to the field consistently.
While Casemiro remains a useful player for his ability, his princely wages reportedly north of £300,000 make him an unnecessary luxury. Manchester United will have to restructure and reinvest next season and the Brazilian is reportedly one of the players they are willing to sacrifice.
Marcus Rashford
Despite his heroics last season and the ink on his new contract barely drying, Marcus Rashford has been linked with a Manchester United exit. According to FourFourTwo, the club's new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has slapped a £100 million price tag on the Englishman and put him on the market.
The biggest criticism detractors of the 26-year-old have leveled against him over his nine-year stay at the club has been his consistency. Rashford's form can swing wildly from one season to the next. He scored 17 goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season and has followed it up with just seven in 31 league appearances so far this season.
If the Englishman is allowed to leave, The Red Devils will have to dip into the market to find a consistent source of goals and assists.
Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho's Manchester United career never kicked on after his move back to England in 2021 and his off-field spat with manager Erik Ten Hag has certainly made matters worse.
While Ten Hag is unlikely to remain at the club given his dreadful campaign, it would be surprising if the English winger is allowed to return. The Manchester City Academy graduate continues to underwhelm on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
Two goals and two assists in 17 appearances all season are not enough justification to permit insubordination.
