Hansi Flick ready to sell 22-year-old Barcelona attacker and teammate in January transfer window: Reports

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is reportedly open to selling 22-year-old forward Ansu Fati and defender Eric Garcia in the upcoming January transfer window. Fati has started in only one game this season, while Garcia has started in four matches.

Ansu Fati has been struggling for game time at Barca, with multiple other forwards including Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski being regular starters. Fati has played only 158 minutes in seven appearances this season. The Spaniard's frequent injury woes have also been a matter of concern as he's missed nine games owing to injuries this season.

Meanwhile, Eric Garcia has played 456 minutes in 10 outings this season. The defender also missed eight games due to injuries, leading to a further lack of game time. Flick has often preferred the likes of Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi as starters in the backline with Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen also set to return soon.

According to a report by SPORT, Hansi Flick has informed both Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia that it'll be challenging for them to get game time this season. The German tactician is aware of the rising competition in the squad and reportedly prefers other candidates over Garcia and Fati for their respective roles.

Flick has also communicated that he will not be against selling the duo in the January transfer window. However, any transfer will have to align with Barcelona's financial and sporting gains.

The aforementioned report also claims that Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia are not willing to leave despite the growing competition. The duo are reportedly keen on finishing the season with Barca and may consider other options in the summer transfer window.

Journalist Jose Alvarez Haya from El Chiringuito TV recently reported that Barcelona are keen on securing long-term contracts with midfielders Pedri and Gavi. Both Gavi and Pedri's current deals end in 2026.

The report further claims both renewals are imminent and will secure the duo's future at the Catalan club until 2030. Earlier reports claimed that Barca are positive about both renewals and are expected to announce it soon. Moreover, both Gavi and Pedri are reportedly keen on staying at Barcelona for many years.

It is not surprising that Barcelona consider Pedri and Gavi a crucial part of their project. Pedri has started 21 games for La Blaugrana this season, being responsible for orchestrating their midfield and creating multiple chances. Pedri's gameplay has often been compared to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta. The 22-year-old is known for his impeccable ball control and a penchant for combining with the attack to create goals.

Meanwhile, Gavi has been a powerhouse in the midfield for the Catalan giants ever since he got promoted to the senior side in July 2021. The Spanish youngster was sidelined for almost a year because of a cruciate ligament tear that he sustained during international duty in November 2023. He returned to action in October 2024. Across competitions, Gavi has played 124 games for Barcelona, registering seven goals and 14 assists.
