How much will Joshua Zirkzee earn at Manchester United? Report sheds light on modest wages
Manchester United summer signing Joshua Zirkzee is set to earn £56,000-a-week at the Erik ten Hag-coached outfit, according to Italian outlet Corriere di Bologna.
Earlier on Sunday (July 14), the Red Devils announced the forward as their player after finalising a move worth over £36 million with Bologna. They have handed the Netherlands star a contract until June 2029.
The former Feyenoord youth player enjoyed a breakout season at Bologna in the 2023-24 season. The 23-year-old found the back of the net 12 times and provided seven assists in 37 matches for Bologna.
Zirkzee, who left Bayern Munich to join Bologna in the summer of 2022, is likely to provide healthy competition to Rasmus Hojlund. He is expected to feature in more matches for his new team than Anthony Martial, who is currently a free agent after the end of his deal.
Upon joining Manchester United, Zirkzee said (h/t manutd.com):
"Having had discussions with the manager and the leaders of the club, I know how exciting the future is going to be here and I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United."
Zirkzee, who made two appearances at the UEFA Euro 2024, added:
"I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I’m ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies. It is a privilege to join such an iconic club. I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I'll be coming back ready to make an impact straight away."
Zirkzee is likely to be in action for Ten Hag's side in their pre-season friendly match against Scottish giants Rangers on Saturday (July 20).
Erik ten Hag urges Manchester United stars to step up game after recent friendly defeat
Following his team's 1-0 pre-season friendly defeat to Norwegian outfit Rosenborg, Erik ten Hag shared his honest thoughts on his players' performances. He said (h/t X/@Fabrizio Romano):
"The result is not secondary. Our performance as a team is by far not good enough. This is not the standard of top football. We are Manchester United, we should perform better."
Manchester United relished 46% possession and recorded five shots compared to their opponents' 22 attempts in their recent encounter.
Last season, the Red Devils won the FA Cup crown and achieved an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League table with just 60 points.
