La Liga giants identify Manchester City star as ideal replacement for departing striker - Reports

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are interested in signing striker Julian Alvarez from Manchester City to lead their attack ahead of the 2024-25 season, as per Mundo Deportivo. Los Colchoneros are said to be prepared to make a significant change to their squad by pursuing Alvarez, who is interested in a transfer.

Atleti striker Alvaro Morata is reportedly closing in on a deal to join AC Milan after his €13 million release clause was triggered after the Euros. The Spaniard has led the line for the Spanish outfit over the last couple of seasons.

Diego Simeone's side are keen to take advantage of the fact that Alvarez is unsatisfied with his role at Manchester City. The Argentine striker played 52 times in 2023-24, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists despite being second-fiddle to Erling Haaland.

Atletico Madrid will look to move for the 24-year-old Julian Alvarez with the promise of a regular starting berth at the Wanda Metropolitano, as per the aforementioned report. The Spanish club will have to part ways with around £70 million to sign the former River Plate striker after his contribution to Argentina's Copa America triumph.

Alvarez is attracting the interest of multiple sides across Europe given the quality he has shown for club and country over the last two years. The striker has also been linked with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this summer as rumors of a move away from the Etihad Stadium continue to make rounds.

Alvaro Morata's departure will leave Atletico Madrid light in the striker department, necessitating a move for another striker. With just one full season under the belt of Samu Omorodion, the club will be keen on signing Alvarez to lead the line.
