Barcelona will try to strengthen squad in 2 key positions next summer: Reports

Barcelona are planning to sign a new left-back and a new right-back next summer, according to journalist Albert Fernandez. The LaLiga giants are already preparing for 2025 and want to focus on the full-back position.

Hansi Flick has deployed Jules Kounde to mixed effect in the right-back role. The French defender is naturally a center back, but has covered admirably at the position. He has registered one goal and six assists from 25 games across competitions.

However, the 26-year-old has struggled of late and the Catalans do not have an able backup in the position. Barcelona now want to address the issue in 2025 and have already been linked with a move for Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Englishman is all set to become a free agent next summer and the Catalans are among the clubs plotting to secure his services on a Bosman move. However, it is believed that Real Madrid are leading the race for the 26-year-old's services.

Meanwhile, a new left-back is also on Flick's agenda, with the club eager to add more competition for Alejandro Balde. The German manager is not entirely convinced by Gerard Martin. It has previously been suggested that Barcelona have their eyes on Alphonso Davies.

The Canadian speedster will enter the final six months of his contract with Bayern Munich in January and could be available for free at the end of the campaign. However, Los Blancos are leading the race for the 24-year-old as well.

Will Barcelona sign a new striker in 2025?

Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski

Barcelona could be open to Robert Lewandowski's exit at the end of this season, according to recent reports. The Polish striker has shown signs of regression of late and missed quite a few clear chances in the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

Lewandowski will turn 37 next August and cannot be relied on to perform at the highest level for much longer. It is believed that some in the Catalans board are ready to show him the door next summer.

The Pole enjoyed a blistering start to the new campaign with Barcelona and now has 23 goals from 24 games this season. However, Lewandowski has scored just once in four games in December, with the Catalans winning only one of them. Recent reports have suggested that the LaLiga giants have their eyes on Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Randal Kolo Muani as an option for the position in January.
