“I see him performing in an Arsenal shirt” - Ex-Gunners star urges Arteta to sign Paul Pogba
Former Arsenal fullback Bacary Sagna has urged the club to sign Paul Pogba. The Juventus midfielder was handed a four-year ban from football in February this year due to doping offences.
However, his ban was recently reduced to 18 months after his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The 31-year-old is no longer part of the Bianconeri's plans, with the club expected to let him leave.
Paul Pogba will be free to return to first team training in January and can join a new club from March onwards. Juventus could terminate his contract in the coming months, opening up the door to a return to the Premier League.
Speaking to Paddy Power, Sagna insisted that Pogba could hit it off at the Emirates.
“The Premier League suits Paul Pogba – I would love to see him join Arsenal. It would be great – he has experience; he loves to play with young players around him – that is when he is most efficient. At the 2018 World Cup, that was when he was most efficient – he had friends around him," said Sagna.
He continued:
“Arsenal have a young, fresh team, and I see him performing in an Arsenal shirt. He will get love from their fans. Now, he can start from scratch again – he’s had time away from football, and he’ll be back with a desire to get back into a good space and play football again.”
Pogba spent six seasons at Manchester United after returning to the club from Juventus in 2016. He registered 39 goals and 48 assists from 233 games in total for the Premier League giants.
How have Arsenal performed this season?
Arsenal narrowly missed out on the Premier League last season, finishing second in the table, two points behind champions Manchester City. Mikel Arteta invested wisely on his squad over the summer, roping in Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna and Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.
Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling and Neto were signed on loan, while David Raya made his stay permanent. The Gunners have since registered a decent start to the new campaign.
Arteta's team have won eight of their 12 games across competitions, with the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth last weekend in the Premier League their first of the season. The north London side have won five of their eight games in the league so far. They are third in the table, four points behind leaders Liverpool.
