Joan Laporta wants to bring Manchester City target to Barcelona in January - Reports
Barcelona president Joan Laporta is planning to bring Manchester City target Rafael Leao to Camp Nou, according to Fichajes. The Catalans have endured a troublesome run of late, registering two wins and two defeats in the last six games.
Laporta is eager to help the LaLiga giants regain their mojo and wants to move for Leao in January. Barcelona have had their eyes on the Portuguese for a while and believe his versatility will be a fine fit in Hansi Flick's system.
Meanwhile, the Catalans are also worried that they are putting too much pressure on Lamine Yamal. Leao's arrival could help ease the burden on the Spaniard and help him continue his development at a steady pace.
Moreover, the LaLiga giants have also struggled with injuries of late and the 25-year-old could provide more cover for the likes of Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.
However, Manchester City could pose a threat to Barcelona's plans. The Cityzens are also going through a rough phase of late and Pep Guardiola could push for someone like Rafael Leao in January.
The Portuguese has been impressive for AC Milan this season, registering five goals and six assists from 19 games. He is under contract until 2028 and the Serie A giants are under no obligation to let him go.
The Rossoneri could let him go for an exorbitant fee, which will hardly be a problem for Manchester City. Barcelona, meanwhile, are planning to raise funds for a move by offloading fringe players like Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia.
Are Manchester City battling Barcelona for a Swedish striker?
Manchester City are locked in a battle with Barcelona for the services of Viktor Gyokeres, according to Sky Germany (via Diario AS). The report adds that Manchester United also have their eyes on the Swedish attacker.
The Catalans are looking for a new No. 9 to eventually succeed Robert Lewandowski at Camp Nou. The Polish striker has shown no signs of slowing down, but will turn 37 next August.
The LaLiga giants reportedly want Gyokeres to take his place. The 26-year-old has been outstanding for Sporting of late and has scored 25 goals from 22 games this season.
However, Manchester City are eyeing the Swede as well. Gyokeres is under contract until 2028 and will reportedly be allowed to leave for €70m next summer. However, Ruben Amorim's presence at Old Trafford could give Manchester United the edge in this race.
