Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce want to sign Manchester United star, club set to make €8 million bid - Reports
Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof as a target at Fenerbahce. As reported by Teamtalk (via EPL Index), the Portuguese mastermind is eyeing a reunion with the Sweden international at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
Mourinho has enjoyed plenty of success in Portugal, England, Italy, and Spain over the years and is now looking to cement his legacy in another country — Turkey. Fenerbahce named him the successor to Jorge Jesus after losing the Turkish league title to Galatasaray by three points despite racking up 99 points in the 2023-24 season.
The former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager is reportedly looking to bolster his backline at the Turkish capital club. As per the aforementioned report, he is looking to reunite with Victor Lindelof, having formerly worked with the Swede at Manchester United.
Lindelof has never quite been able to establish himself as a regular in the first-team at Old Trafford since his €35 million switch from Benfica in 2017. He has made a total of 259 appearances for the Red Devils over the years, out of which 45 were under Jose Mourinho.
In 2023-24, the Sweden international made 28 appearances across competitions for Manchester United, registering one goal and one assist. However, he was mostly used as a rotational option at centre-back and even as a makeshift left-back under Erik ten Hag.
Lindelof is contracted at Old Trafford until the summer of 2025 and could reportedly be available for around €8 million. Manchester United are also understood to be looking to refresh their backline, with Raphael Varane set for an exit and Harry Maguire also potentially on his way out.
Erik ten Hag gives fitness update on Manchester United star ahead of England's Euro 2024 opener against Serbia
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag shared an update on Luke Shaw's potential return from injury. The England international has been out of action since February with a muscle injury but has been named in Gareth Southgate's squad for Euro 2024.
Ten Hag has claimed that the left-back should be available for the Three Lions in the knockout stages. The Dutchman said, as quoted by AFC Ajax on X (formerly Twitter):
"Luke Shaw will start playing once England get out of the group stages."
Kieran Tripper filled in at an unusual left-back position as England secured a 1-0 win against Serbia in their Euro 2024 winner on Sunday (June 16). Jude Bellingham scored a header in the 13th minute to secure the Three Lions all three points.
