Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce willing to bid £25m to sign Manchester City superstar - Reports
Jose Mourinho's club side, Fenerbahce, is reportedly keen on signing Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer. The Turkish club is reportedly willing to offer €25 million for the Croatian midfielder, as per The Sun.
Kovacic is currently in his second year at Manchester City after having joined the Citizens from PL giants Chelsea last summer for a transfer fee in the region of £25 million plus add-ons.
Fenerbahce have been relatively active in the ongoing summer transfer window, having already signed the likes of Caglar Söyüncü, Rade Krunic, Cenk Tosin, Oguz Aydın, and Youssef En-Nesyri.
They're believed to have now turned their attention to Manchester City star Kovacic in a bid to bolster Mourinho's midfield ahead of the 2024-25 football campaign.
Recalling what Jose Mourinho said about Manchester City star Mateo Kovacic
The Portuguese manager is reportedly pushing for Fenerbahce to sign City star Kovacic as he aims to strengthen his midfield this summer.
It's not a surprise that Mourinho is keen on signing the former Chelsea player, as he has been a fan of the Croatian's ability.
Speaking during an interview in 2021, the former Chelsea manager hinted that Kovacic is very much underappreciated. In his words, as quoted by Talk Sports, Mourinho said:
"Kovacic, I always feel he’s much better than what people think. And I am very upset with him because he played in every club I’ve been, but never with me.
"He [Kovacic] played for Real Madrid, but not with me. He played for Chelsea, but not with me. He played for Inter, but not with me.
"So I love the guy and the guy followed my clubs … maybe he goes to Tottenham. Maybe he goes to Tottenham next season. But he never played for me."
It will be interesting to see if the Portuguese tactician will eventually get the opportunity to manage Kovacic at Fenerbahce after having missed the opportunity at former clubs such as Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Chelsea.
