Liverpool boss Arne Slot has made contact with Dutch star over potential move amid recent links to Manchester United - Reports
Newly-appointed Liverpool manager Arne Slot has reportedly made contact with fellow Dutchman Jeremie Frimpong regarding a move to Anfield. As claimed by German outlet SportBILD via The Liverpool Echo, Slot has been in direct contact with the Bayer Leverkusen full-back.
The report claims that Slot was in Germany to watch the Netherlands reach the quarter-final stage of Euro 2024 beating Romania 3-0. And, the former Feyenoord and AZ boss reportedly established contact with compatriot Frimpong regarding a summer switch to Anfield.
Frimpong has been a player in demand following an exceptional season with Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen. The 23-year-old played a key role for Die Werkself as they went on to win both the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal.
A marauding full-back, Frimpong was deployed by Alonso mostly as a wing-back and the Dutchman delivered impressive attacking numbers. The former Manchester City youth graduate contributed with 14 goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances across competitions.
Frimpong has been linked with a host of clubs across Europe including the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona. However, Liverpool now also appear to be keen on the flying right-back's services.
Arne Slot, however, has no shortage of options at right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley at his disposal. Joe Gomez is also an option thanks to the Englishman's exceptional versatility.
Darren Bent names Liverpool target the best player in Euro 2024 so far ahead of Cody Gakpo
Former England striker Darren Bent has named Germany international Jamal Musiala the best player of Euro 2024 so far. The former Premier League striker insisted that while Liverpool star Cody Gakpo has enjoyed a solid campaign, Musiala has been even better. Bent said, as quoted by HITC Sport:
“So, my player of the tournament so far, I have gone for Jamal Musiala for Germany. I think he has been absolutely incredible. He has got a couple of goals as well. Just real quality. He has three goals in the tournament so far. Every single time he seems to get on the ball, it just gives everyone in that German team a lift. He can go past people. He can create. He’s quick and direct. I was going to go Cody Gakpo, who is having a really good tournament, but I am going to go for Jamal Musiala.”
Musiala has been excellent for Germany as they have progressed into the quarter-finals unbeaten. Julian Nagelsmann's side will be up against Spain, who have been arguably the best-performing team in the Euros, on Friday, July 5.
Musiala and Gakpo have both scored three goals in Euro 2024 so far leading the scoring charts. Musiala has been linked with a switch to Liverpool in recent months with his future at Bayern Munich up in the air.
