Liverpool consider approving January transfer to let Federico Chiesa leave Anfield in swap deal for 26-year-old midfielder: Reports
Liverpool are reportedly ready to let Federico Chiesa leave in the January transfer market. The Reds are said to be interested in signing AC Milan's Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and could offer Chiesa as a swap bargain in the winter window of 2025.
As per Milan Live (via Sports Witness), AC Milan are believed to be keeping track of Chiesa's time at Anfield. The Italian winger joined the Reds on a bargain deal (€12 million) from Juventus in the summer of 2024.
However, he has so far registered only 78 minutes of action for the Reds, with the majority of it coming in the EFL Cup. Chiesa has also been out of the squad in Liverpool's last four games and has failed to register a goal contribution so far.
As per the aforementioned report, the two parties could be involved in a winter deal that would directly benefit both clubs. While AC Milan will get Chiesa back to Serie A, where he has succeeded in the past (66 goals and 49 assists in 284 games), Liverpool could land a vital central midfielder.
The Reds were reportedly close to a deal for Martin Zubimendi in the summer but failed to land their target. It is believed he is still their preferred choice for a new defensive midfielder. But should the Real Sociedad player refuse to leave Spain, Liverpool could opt for a swap move for Tijjani Reijnders.
Ryan Gravenberch currently occupies that role at Anfield and has done a good job in the first two months of the season.
Liverpool could be set to lose three key players in the summer of 2025 - Reports
The departure of legendary Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp last summer saw the club bring in Arne Slot as the new boss. While the Dutchman has made a flying start to his career at Liverpool (top of the league table with 25 points after 10 games), he could be faced with a stern test off the field.
Liverpool's three key players, Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will all see their contracts at the club run out in June 2025. The Reds are yet to agree to a new deal while reports have indicated that conversations are underway.
There have been claims that Real Madrid want to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold next year (via Sports Illustrated).
