Liverpool considering a surprise move for Serie A star who has also been linked with French champions PSG - Reports

Liverpool are considering a surprise move for Serie A winger Ademola Lookman, who plays for Atalanta. The Nigeria international was vital in La Dea's run to win the 2023-24 Europa League trophy, scoring five goals in 11 continental games for the club. His brilliance last season has also led to interest from French champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The winger has had a remarkable two seasons with Atalanta. His debut seasons saw him score 13 goals and provide six assists in 31 Serie A games, helping them qualify for the Europa League. His second season also saw him score 11 goals and provide seven assists in 31 Serie A games.

A number of clubs have taken notice of the general consistency in his run of form, with Premier League giants Manchester City keeping their eyes on him. The English champions aren't the only major club monitoring the winger, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and PSG all said to be interested in his services.

According to a report from TBR Football, Liverpool could make a move for the exciting 26-year-old winger this summer. However, it is worth noting that the Anfield faithful may not be too pleased about this rumored move. Ademola Lookman once played for their arch-rivals Everton. He spent three years at the club, making 21 Premier League appearances in his final season with the Toffees.

The report also revealed Lookman's decision not to play for Atalanta, as he notably missed out on their 4-0 win over Leece on August 19. This is due to the 'interest that is emerging in his signature' (via the aforementioned report). It is also worth the mention that the winger's preference is reportedly PSG, rather than Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot discusses transfer market concerns

It is no surprise that Liverpool are getting linked to players like Ademola Lookman, as the Reds have yet to strengthen the squad this summer. So far, they have yet to make a single signing, which could pose problems with their squad depth, with a tough season ahead.

They had notably pushed to sign Martin Zubimendi in recent weeks, but the Real Sociedad midfielder opted to remain at the Basque club instead. Having been spurned by one target, there will be concerns that the Reds may get spurned again.

However, Arne Slot has revealed the club's plans to strengthen, telling the press (via BBC):

"In the background, [sporting director] Richard [Hughes] is trying to strengthen the squad as he can but, unfortunately, Zubimendi decided not to come. We are always talking about transfers but also a very positive thing that we kept our players and they are in a good place. Jurgen left the team in a good place and we are trying to build from there."

Liverpool will be hoping they can secure their much-needed signings with the Premier League season now in full swing.
