Liverpool contract offer turned down by 29-year-old midfielder as he prefers Manchester United transfer: Reports

Adrien Rabiot has reportedly rejected a contract offer from Liverpool because he prefers to join Manchester United. The French midfielder is available as a free agent after leaving Juventus earlier this summer.

TuttoJuve.com (via mufcMPB) reports that Rabiot has turned the Merseysiders down as he prioritizes a move to Old Trafford. Arne Slot has yet to make a signing since taking over at Anfield and appears to have the former PSG man on his radar.

Rabiot was impressive at Juve last season, a prominent member of the Old Lady's side. He made 35 appearances across competitions, registering five goals and three assists.

The 48-cap France international was close to joining Manchester United in the summer of 2022. The Red Devils couldn't come to an agreement over wage demands, and he touched on the failed transfer months later:

"In the end, once it was clear I would not go to United. I focused straight back on Juventus to give everything I had. I didn't want people to doubt my commitment or to think that because I could have left for United, I would not care anymore."

Rabiot appears to have his sights set on a move to United rather than joining Liverpool. AC Milan and Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in the Frenchman.

Rabiot was part of France's side that finished runners-up at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He made six appearances in Qatar before Les Bleus lost on penalties to Argentina in the final.

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate was one of Rabiot's teammates at the World Cup. He talked up the midfielder and what he brings to the national team (via JuveFC):

"Rabiot?I didn’t know him before this World Cup. I had never lived with him in the group. Talk to everyone. He is a key player in this competition. Adrien takes us a lot, in defence and attack."

Rabiot has been vital for France, earning 48 caps with four goals and three assists over the years. His all-round game is impressive and may suit Erik ten Hag's brand of football at Manchester United.

Sofyan Amrabat's loan has expired, and the Red Devils aren't willing to sign him on the current terms. This could open the door for Rabiot to replace the Moroccan at Old Trafford.
