Liverpool forward unhappy under Arne Slot; ready to push for January transfer: Reports
Italian winger Federico Chiesa is reportedly unhappy at Liverpool and wants to leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window. Chiesa is said to be eyeing a move back to Serie A for the remainder of the season.
As per a report in Inter Live, Inter Milan and AS Roma are keeping an eye on the winger's situation and have begun talks with his agent. Chiesa is open to leaving just six months after moving to Anfield, as things have not gone according to plan.
Arne Slot was recently quizzed about the possibility of letting Chiesa leave when the window reopens. He replied (via GOAL):
"[Parting ways with Chiesa] hasn't gone through my mind at all. First and foremost is that he gets fit again and then we can see where he is. He missed pre-season [with Liverpool] and in pre-season [with Juventus] he was on low-intensity sessions as he had to train with three or four players separate from the group. Going from then to a high-intensity league, to a high-intensity playing style is difficult in general for every player, but especially if you had a pre-season like this."
Inter Milan and AS Roma are not in a position to sign the former Juventus man on a permanent basis. But they could sign him on loan in January, with an obligation to sign him permanently in the summer.
Arne Slot admits Liverpool knew about Federico Chiesa's injury issues
Arne Slot spoke about Federico Chiesa's injury issues last month, admitting that Liverpool were aware of his fitness history. He added that they had full confidence in the Italian to get back to his best and help the club. He said (via GOAL):
"We knew this before and we knew we had to be really careful to adjust where we could to his individual needs. But it hasn't been perfect yet so we are trying to find the right way of building him up without overloading him. That has been difficult up until now. I have full confidence that will happen. Let's let him first be fit."
When quizzed about the timeline of Chiesa's injury issue, he added:
"That's always difficult to say, because he goes a bit up and down. Sometimes he is there with us, train a few days and then he goes out for an injury again. I don't want to put days or weeks on it because we just have to make sure he gets in the best possible shape, and I don't put any pressure on him by coming out with dates."
Liverpool have done well without Chiesa and are five points clear on top of the Premier League table. They are also on top of the UEFA Champions League table with four wins in as many matches.
