Liverpool hit major stumbling block in Trent Alexander-Arnold contract talks amid interest from Real Madrid: Reports
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is among the best in his position in the world at the moment, has given his supporters at Anfield a major scare. It has been reported by The Daily Mail that Liverpool have hit a stumbling block with the 26-year-old regarding his new contract.
The aforementioned publication reported that the Reds had presented offers to raise his weekly earnings from £180,000 but these have not been accepted by Alexander-Arnold. He appears to want more money for the value he is offering to the club, having become an integral part of it so soon in his career.
This is especially worrying for Liverpool given that Real Madrid are hovering over him to offer him a significantly improved deal next summer. Alexander-Arnold, a homegrown talent with close ties to Anfield, runs out of his existing contract next summer and can enter into a new agreement with others in January 2025.
Madrid are keen on entering into an agreement with Alexander-Arnold as soon as possible, and Liverpool will have to find a way to meet his salary demands to avoid a stand-off. This is even more worrying for the Reds as the contracts of stalwarts Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also expire in the summer of 2025.
Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table
The Merseyside outfit are doing extremely well in their ongoing campaign, and are ranked right at the top of the Premier League standings with 25 points to their name. They are next slated to take on Aston Villa on Saturday, 9 November at home.
The Reds also impressed in their midweek encounter in the UEFA Champions League. They defeated Bayer Leverkusen, who gained plaudits for winning the Bundesliga last season, by a 4-0 scoreline at home on Tuesday, 5 November.
A goal from Cody Gakpo and a hat-trick from Luis Diaz were enough for Arne Slot's men to sail through a comfortable encounter.
