Liverpool keen to sign 18-year-old prodigy as Virgil van Dijk's long-term replacement but face competition from Arsenal: Reports
Arne Slot's Liverpool are keen to sign Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis as a long-term replacement for Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk, as per Brazilian publication Nasso Palmeriras. Nevertheless, the Reds will face competition from Mikel Arteta's Arsenal for the young Brazilian's signature.
As per the aforementioned report, Vitor Reis is on the transfer radar of several top European clubs. However, the teams are yet to submit an official bid for the 18-year-old defender.
Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk's current contract at Anfield will expire next summer. As a result, the Reds are currently seeking a long-term replacement for the Dutchman.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are also interested in bringing the 18-year-old to north London to add some depth in defence. Arsenal have William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as their central defensive duo while Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori can also play as central defenders.
Vitor Reis has a contract with Brazilian giants Palmeiras until the summer of 2028. The contract also includes a release clause of €100 million.
Apart from Vitor Reis, the Reds also have Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck on their transfer radar. As per CaughtOffside, the German defender is a top target for Liverpool in the next summer transfer window.
Schlotterbeck joined Borussia Dortmund from SC Freiburg in 2022 and has become a crucial part of the side. However, he's also expected to be a transfer target for Real Madrid, who are seeking a long-term partner for Eder Militao.
