Liverpool make contact with 29-year-old midfielder whose 'dream transfer' is Manchester United: Reports

Liverpool have reportedly been in contact with Adrien Rabiot as they look to steal a march on Manchester United in the race to sign the Frenchman. The former Juventus midfielder is a free agent after leaving the Serie A giants after his contract expired.

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reports that the Merseysiders are showing interest in Rabiot. They have already been in contact with the 48-cap France international about a move to Anfield.

Liverpool has yet to make a signing in the summer transfer window despite a new era dawning. Arne Slot has taken the reins after Jurgen Klopp's departure, and he's backed by a new recruitment team fronted by the returning chief executive, Michael Edwards.

Rabiot impressed for Juve last season, posting five goals and three assists in 35 games across competitions. He's long been linked with a move to the Premier League, and Manchester United is reportedly his preference.

French journalist Abdellah Boulma reports that Rabiot's dream transfer is to join the Red Devils. Erik ten Hag has been heavily backed by new co-owners INEOS, with Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro arriving at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are interested in Rabiot and are considering signing him as they view him as a low-cost option, per Manchester World. They missed out on his signature in 2022, and he confirmed this in an interview shortly after

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United have agreed personal terms with PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte. He's interested in joining the Red Devils despite a lack of UEFA Champions League football.

Liverpool have been linked with Ugarte over recent months but have not made a concrete move for the Uruguayan. He is eyeing more game time after a frustrating spell at the Parc des Princes.

Ugarte, 23, appeared 37 times across competitions last season but came off the boil as the season progressed. He managed three assists as the Parisians' defensive midfielder.

Manchester United's rebuild could see two new midfielders arrive with question marks over Casemiro and Scott McTominay's futures. The duo have been linked with moves away, paving the way for two incomings.

Liverpool majorly overhauled their midfield last summer by signing four new midfielders. Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai all arrived at Anfield.

A new holding midfielder has been eyed to replace Fabinho, who departed last summer. Ugarte fits the bill with his tenacious presence and ball-playing capabilities and impressed at Sporting CP before his PSG move in July 2023.
