Liverpool make last-ditch attempt to hijack £25 million deal from PL rivals - Reports

According to De Telegraaf, Liverpool have made a last-ditch attempt to hijack Brighton & Hove Albion's £25 million deal for Feyenoord star Mats Wieffer.

The Reds are looking to bolster several positions in the squad under new manager Arne Slot. Defensive midfield is one of those positions despite the Merseysiders having Wataru Endo in their ranks.

Wieffer, who played under Slot at Feyenoord, has become a target for the Reds. They have reportedly submitted an offer, which could be too late. As per the aforementioned source, the Eredivisie club have already agreed on a deal with Brighton.

Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese is reportedly staying in England to finalize the details of the player's move to The Seagulls. Wieffer joined Feyenoord in 2022 and has so far made 79 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists.

Wieffer broke into the Netherlands national team in 2023 and was also a part of the Euro 2024 squad before suffering an injury. Liverpool's interest in the 24-year-old defensive midfielder might have been too late as he looks all set to move to Brighton.

Premier League defender announces he is open to Liverpool transfer

Nottingham Forest defender Murillo has impressed with his performances in recent seasons. The Brazilian looks like a player who has a bright future ahead and the 22-year-old hasn't shied away from expressing his desire to join a bigger club.

Murillo has claimed his affinity for teams like Manchester City and Arsenal. The Brazilian is also open to making a move to Merseyside. He said on the Benja Me Mucho podcast (via This is Anfield):

"I wouldn't discard Liverpool either, it would be a good opportunity for me to show my football in a big club."

While Forest paid only £15 million for Murillo, he had an impressive first season, making 36 appearances across competitions. The player is now rated at €35 million by Transfermarkt.

There is also uncertainty regarding whether Arne Slot will bring in a new defender ahead of the new season. As of now, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate look certain to continue at Anfield despite Paris Saint-Germain showing an interest in signing the latter.
