Liverpool midfielder ruled out for six weeks as Reds suffer fresh injury setback: ReportsĀ 

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliot has reportedly suffered a major setback after picking up a foot injury. The England U-21 international will be sidelined for the next six weeks, according to the Times.

The Merseysiders signed Elliot from Fulham's youth academy five years ago. He earned his first-team promotion at Liverpool in 2021.

The English attacker went on to establish himself as a key first-team player in the 2022-23 season. Elliot registered 45 appearances in all competitions that season. He then made 53 appearances last season in Jurgen Klopp's last campaign as Liverpool boss, scoring four goals and providing 11 assists.

Following the arrival of Arne Slot, however, Elliot has struggled for game time. He has registered just one Premier League appearance so far, getting just seven minutes on the pitch.

The 21-year-old was called up for international duty by the England U-21 team. However, he was forced to return home early after experiencing some discomfort during training.

The Times have now confirmed that the Englishman has suffered a fracture in his foot. Elliot has certainly been dealt a huge blow which will set him back in his efforts to win over Slot and return to the starting XI. The Fulham youngster could potentially see himself out of contention until late October, according to the report.

Gerard Pique makes Champions League prediction involving Liverpool and Manchester City

Barcelona icon Gerard Pique has backed Real Madrid and Manchester City to win the Champions League this season over the Reds.

The Reds have been handed a draw that includes fixtures against the likes of Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen. Pique has made his prediction for who the favorites will be to clinch the title this season, categorizing them into tiers.

The former Barcelona defender named Madrid and City in tier one, and the Reds in tier two. He told Express Sport:

"I think Real Madrid and City are both favorites for the teams that they have and the players. And also I think they are the last two champions, I think they are the favorites. Liverpool with a new coach are in tier two of being the favorites.
"I think City and Madrid are first and then there is a second tier where you have Liverpool, PSG, Arsenal, Barcelona will be there, Bayern Munich."

The Merseysiders last featured in the competition during the 2022-23 campaign under Jurgen Klopp. After finishing fifth in the league that term, Klopp's men missed out on Champions League football last season.
