Liverpool in pole position to sign midfielder who missed EURO 2024 because of injury - Reports

Liverpool are reportedly in pole position to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in the summer transfer window. This is according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who believe that the asking price for this player could be out of the reach of other interested parties (via TeamTalk).

The Netherlands international was impressive last season, playing in an attacking midfield position. He contributed 15 goals and seven assists from 51 appearances across competitions for his Italian employers. However, Koopmeiners has been ruled out of Euro 2024 with injury.

With focus on his future, it is believed that Juventus are also looking to bring the player to their club. However, Atalanta value their midfield star at £51 million, which is said to be too much for The Old Lady and hence, the Reds are ahead in this race.

Liverpool do lack an out-and-out number 10 in their current squad. The likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai usually feature in more advanced midfield positions.

Koopmeiners would provide Arne Slot with some flexibility, thanks to his ability to play as a number 10 and in the number eight role. A move to Anfield also seems quite tempting, with the Merseysiders set to offer Champions League football next season.

Liverpool will also be expected to challenge for the Premier League title after finishing third in the 2023/24 season. Thet eventually ended up nine points short of champions Manchester City.

Liverpool have reportedly established contact with Adrien Rabiot over a move to Anfield this summer. The news comes from Calciomercato, with the midfielder set to be available for free after his contract with Juventus expired on June 30 (via The Real Champs).

However, it is also claimed that the France international would prefer a move to Real Madrid over Merseyside. This shouldn't be a huge surprise after the Spanish giants managed to win the UEFA Champions League and La Liga in the previous campaign.

Moreover, Los Blancos have completed the signing of Rabiot's France teammate Kylian Mbappe. They're likley to push for major honros once again in the 2024/25 seaosn.

Currently Rabiot is away with Les Bleus at Euro 2024 where he is playing a key role in the team's success. After defeating Portugal on penalties on Friday (July 5), Rabiot and Co. are gearing up for a semi-final against Spain on Tuesday (July 9).
