Arda Guler is one of the most highly-rated talents in Europe. The 19-year-old joined Real Madrid last summer from Fernabache for a reported €20 million, penning a six-year contract with Los Blancos. In his debut season in Spain, the Turk enjoyed notable success, winning La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
However, he played a peripheral role in this success as a severe muscle injury kept him out for almost half of the season. Acting as deputy to Toni Kross and Luka Modric, Guler managed to feature 12 times across competitions. However, he impressed on the few occasions he was given a starting role, scoring five goals in as many games towards the tail end of the season.
Following an impressive outing at Euro 2024 outing with Turkey and Toni Kross' retirement, it was expected that the youngster would finally cement a spot in Carlo Ancelotti's first team. However, that has not been the case as he has managed to get just 291 minutes of action across 10 appearances in the 2024-25 campaign.
According to a report by Turkish outlet Fanatik, Guler is not happy with his situation at Real Madrid and this has put him on the radar of clubs like Bayer Leverkusen, Girona, Liverpool, and his former club Fernabache.
The report, however, also states that Los Blancos have no intention of selling Guler, but could consider a loan move in January to help him gain more game time and experience.
Liverpool have shown major interest in the versatile attacker and were keen on signing him in the summer. With a loan away from Santiago Bernabeu now appearing to be a possibility in the coming months, they are prepared to launch a loan with the option to buy offer for Guler.
Real Madrid plotting January swoop for Liverpool defender - Reports
Los Blancos are reportedly plotting a move to rope in Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander Arnold. The Englishman has been on the Spanish club’s radar for a while now.
However, according to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, Real Madrid wants the player as soon as the January transfer window following a long-term injury to Dani Carvajal.
The Spaniard recently suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and is expected to be out for long. As such, the LaLiga giants are trying to lavage the situation by making a quick move for the Liverpool fullback.
The Reds’ defender is in the final months of his contract at Anfield and will become a free agent by June 2025 if he doesn’t sign a contract extension. As a result, Liverpool could be forced to cash in on him by selling him to Real Madrid.
