Liverpool schedule final meeting to make decision over top transfer target - Reports

Liverpool have reportedly scheduled a meeting to discuss signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer. Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the situation on his X account (formerly Twitter).

The Georgia shot-stopper has become a sought-after prospect following Euro 2024. Romano claims that the Reds are looking to sign him for more than €30 million. However, with Alisson occupying the number one position between the sticks at Anfield, it is expected that Mamardashvili will be loaned straight out.

Speaking about this, Romano wrote on X:

"One more meeting has already been scheduled for Liverpool to discuss Giorgi Mamardashvili with Valencia. Up to the Reds as he'd be loaned out and Georgian GK is keen on this solution."

Although the 23-year-old will not register minutes in Merseyside right after joining the club, this move could suit him in the long run. The Brazilian at Liverpool is over the age of 30 and has three years left on his current contract.

Towards the end of Alisson's deal, it is likely that the Reds will want a fresh long-term goalkeeper, and Mamardashvili could become that player. To date, he's made 100 appearances across competitions for Valencia, keeping 31 clean sheets.

Arne Slot's team are not only one of the biggest clubs in Europe but are also in the mix to compete for the Premier League. Last season, they finished third, and nine points behind champions Manchester City. It is likely that they will offer Champions League football in years to come as well.

Liverpool seemingly don't have to worry about the immediate future of Alisson, who reportedly wishes to continue with the Reds for the time being. The news from Football Insider comes at a time when the Saudi Pro League side have shown an interest in signing the former Roma shot-stopper (via MSN).

According to the aforementioned report, the Brazil international's family are extremely happy with their life in Liverpool. Similarly, the goalkeeper is also considered to share a special bond with the club, which is set to keep him there for the 2024/25 season.

To date, Alisson has made 263 appearances across competitions for the Merseyside outfit, keeping 114 clean sheets. He's won the Premier League and UEFA Champions League trophies once each, among other honors at Anfield.

His team get their league season underway with a match against Ipswich Town on Saturday (August 17).
