Liverpool suffer transfer blow as Premier League club are pushing target to sign new deal - ReportsĀ

Newcastle United are reportedly pushing to get Anthony Gordon to sign a new deal amidst links with Liverpool. The winger's current contract expires with the club in 2026.

As per TBR Football, the Reds made an approach to sign Gordon in the summer but Newcastle rejected it. They sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson instead to help them comply with the financial rules. The Merseysiders, meanwhile, ended up signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

Newcastle are now looking to get Gordon to sign a new contract to deter interest from suitors like Liverpool. They are already in talks with Alexander Isak, whose contract expires in 2028. They will hope to tie down Gordon to a new contract as well.

The England international has been excellent since joining the Magpies from Everton in January 2023. He's scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 69 games across competitions. He's also made six appearances for the England national team.

As per the aforementioned report, it's still unclear whether Gordon is open to signing a new contract at Newcastle though. Daveockop had previously reported that the Englishman is interested in a move to Anfield.

Arne Slot on getting a birthday gift with Liverpool's win over AC Milan

Liverpool beat AC Milan 3-1 in their UEFA Champions League league stage clash at the San Siro on Arne Slot's birthday on September 17. Christian Pulisic gave the hosts the lead in the third minute before Ibrahima Konate equalized in the 23rd minute. Virgil van Dijk (41') and Dominik Szoboszlai (67') then completed the turnaround.

After the game, Arne Slot was asked if it was a good birthday present and he answered (via Liverpoolfc.com):

"Yeah. I said a few times already, normally you celebrate your birthday with your friends and your family. But this was a real good alternative to play a first Champions League game against a special club for Liverpool, but also a special club for Dutch people in a nice venue.
"Then to win it the way we did after going 1-0 down after five minutes with the result of Nottingham Forest still in our head. I think it was very good to see how they took the game in their hands the players and in the end we scored three goals and won 3-1."

The Reds will now turn their attention to the Premier League, where they will host Bournemouth on Saturday, September 21.
